Back in 1995 when the Warriors debuted in the NRL Ruben Wiki was watching the game on television and he was gutted that he wasn't part of it.
The staunchly proud New Zealander had left home a couple of seasons earlier to join the Canberra Raiders.
To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the club the Warriors are winding back the clock. They will wear the old jerseys, bring back the Polynesian drummers and walk out of a flame-flanked tunnel for their clash with the Broncos.
"That's just the way it was," says Wiki. "I finally get to wear that jersey. It is going to be huge."Peter Thornton de Sportal nous invite implicitement à ne plus mettre de majuscule sur le w quand nous parlons des wikis. Par convention, je proposerais bien de réserver la majuscusle sur le W, pour parler de tous ceux qui s'appellent Wiki. Comme ce Ruben, dont le VraiNom sur un wiki pourrait être tout simplement un mot-clé comme Ruben Wiki.
The popular Kiwis captain, who is returning from a knee injury that forced him out of last week's loss to Parramatta, knows all too well that if the Warriors are going to get up and contest the finals they have to start winning now and they have to start beating teams in the eight.
Wiki can't see a better team to start with than the Broncos. He says his side can't get daunted by the visitors' high profile players - they just need to go out there and knock them down like they did back in Round Two at Suncorp Stadium for a valuable win.
"We've done it before and we have improved since then so there is no reason why we can't do it again," says the robust prop.
Wiki had a fine game in that effort where he lead the tackle and hit-up count and also scored a try.
Despite the loss of captain Steve Price and Louis Anderson to injury for the rest of the season Wiki remains confident that they can make the finals.
We have got a lot of depth so while those guys gave us a lot of go forward ball we have the players there that can do that job as well," he said.
Wiki said Warriors-Broncos clashes are always intense and he expects Sunday to be no different, especially with the added motivation of the occasion.
In a 10-year anniversary for the club it is going to be quite emotional out there and we hope that lifts all the boys," he said.
Wiki said it has been awesome having players like Tony Tuimavave back at the club this week for the build-up. Tuimavave's nephew, Evarn, is waiting in the wings for his chance at the top flight.
It is a special moment for the Warriors and with them coming over to New Zealand we have to end that winning streak, he said.
